Anna Marie Prez, 91, of Sorrento, FL, died on Sunday, September 28, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born to the late Guillermo and Etelvina Droz on Aug. 12, 1922 in the Panama Canal Zone. Anna received a Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College in 1945; she was one of the very first Latina women to achieve a degree from this prestigious school. She later received 3 Master's Degrees from various universities. She married Jos Manuel Prez in April of 1946. They lived and raised their family in the Bronx, NY until they relocated to Sorrento, FL in 1980.
Anna worked as a school teacher/assistant principal in the New York Public School system for 38 years and taught in Lake County Public Schools for 11 years.
Anna was a devoted member of her church, where she was choir director and also played piano/organ. She led weekly Bible Study groups and was an avid reader. She deeply enjoyed knitting and handicrafts.
She was dedicated to and beloved by her family, survived by her two children: Richard Prez of Eustis, FL; Marvina Hooper of Sorrento, FL; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at St. Phillips Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 6th at 10AM.
