Barbara Ann Rees, born in Lake County, Florida, died Monday March 2, 2015 as a long term resident after a short illness. She is survived by her three sons, Rusty Hodges of Forsyth County, Georgia, Lincoln Hodges of Germantown, Tennessee and Geoffrey Hodges of Hardin County, Tennessee. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Justin B. Hodges of Atlanta, Georgia, Courtney Marquez of Memphis, Tennessee, Rees Hodges of Memphis, Tennessee, and Allison Hodges of Memphis, Tennessee.
Born on June 9, 1926, she was 88 when she died. She was a graduate of Florida State University, a graduate of Vanderbilt Nursing School, and possessed a Master's degree from the University of Memphis. She obtained a Nurse Practitioner's license and was the student health nurse at the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis, where she was beloved by both faculty and students. Throughout her long education process, she was bright enough to have skipped two entire grades.
Her father, Lincoln Allison Rees was a long term resident of Tavares, Florida, having fought in both World War I and World War II, in the latter, as commander of a naval base in Great Britain, and earning the coveted Order of the British Empire. Her mother, Clara Nutt Rees was a member of the distinguished Nutt family in Lake County, and very active in Tavares First Baptist Church. She and Lincoln owned and operated an upscale dress shop for many years in Tavares. Barbara's grandmother, Annie Morse is honored as a Lake County Pioneer with her picture hanging in the courthouse.
Barbara Rees was a Christian woman who was devoted to her church and family, dropping out of the work force for 17 years to raise her three sons. She is deeply missed.
