Obituary

Belva Mae Codding, 95, of Mount Dora, passed away peacefully in her home on Lake Dora, January 25th, 2017. She is survived by her husband, Bill Swartzlander, her children, Dick, Marilyn, Don and Larry, her stepchildren, Michael, Emily, Matthew and Amy, her sister, Floradelle, grandchildren great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled February 2nd from 2 to 4pm at Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora. Service begins at 3pm. Belva moved to Eustis from Akron, Ohio in 1950 with her first husband, Harry Codding, and their children. Her career as a banker began at the Bank of Mount Dora as a teller in 1968 and concluded with her retirement as Vice President of Barnett Banks Mount Dora branch office in 1993. She fell in love with Mount Dora and the surrounding communities and devoted her life to countless volunteer activities, including heading the annual fund raising drive for Florida Hospital Waterman Foundation, raising millions of dollars for expansion and the womens wing. She was also a key member of the W.T. Bland Public Library in Mount Dora over the years, helping to raise 1.8 million dollars to build and expand the library. She led the fundraising to build the All Childrens Playground at Gilbert Park in Mount Dora. Among other contributions, Belva was a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Lake Sumter Counties, Inc., a member of the Mount Dora Center for the Arts, The Lake County Area Technical Vocational School, Heart of Florida Girl Scout Council, American Cancer Society, Women of Hospice, The Mount Dora Historical Society, The Mount Dora Arts Festival, Supporter of the Ice House Theater and committee member of the Annual Mount Dora Christmas Tour of Homes for over 30 years. The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce formally recognized Belva as the lady who ran Mount Dora and Ms. Mount Dora, January 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
