Obituary

Bertha C. Overpeck, 95, of Umatilla, Florida, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on May 31, 2013.

Bertha was born on September 17, 1917 in the little mining town of Colorado Springs, CO to father John Chavez and mother Hope Lugue. Bertha is preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, John Luman Rannells of Hyattville, WY who at the age of 22 was killed in a U.S. military air fatality in Kissimmee, FL and second husband, Boyd Henry Overpeck, Jr. of Orlando, FL.

After John L. Rannells death, she traveled by military train with her 9 month old daughter, Marla Dawn Rannells back to Wyoming for his burial in Hyattville.

Bertha returned to her beloved Florida after several years, eventually marrying Boyd H. Overpeck, Jr. in Orlando.

Boyd was employed by Martin Marietta as a Senior Engineer. After his retirement, they moved to Mount Dora, FL and eventually Umatilla.

Bertha was a member of Sorosis of Orlando and a charter member of the Conway Garden Club. She was gifted in flower arranging and won many a tri-color and blue ribbons for her beautiful displays as well as being a judge at several shows. Bertha was an avid gardener.

Bertha is survived by her only child, daughter, Marla Dawn Lambert, two grandchildren Jade Bronwynn Reardon (Jim) and John Luman Stokley (Jennifer) both of Atlanta, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Hart Reardon, Jack Ethan Stokley and Kate Elizabeth Stokley and many nieces and nephews.

We celebrate her life.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora, FL.

Interment will be private.
