Obituary

Carl Eugene Tucker, 93, died peacefully on Thursday, April 15th, following a brief illness. Born April 27th, 1927, Carl lived in Mount Dora his entire life. He was the great-grandson of Dora Ann Drawdy. His parents built the first home on Lake Johanna.

He married his sweetheart, Lola Carrie Cape, on April 22nd, 1945. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Second World War and then had a fulfilling 40-year career in U.S. Postal Service. He retired as Postmaster of Umatilla, Florida.  After his retirement, he and Lola reached their life-long dream of building a cabin in the North Carolina mountains before her death in 2001.

Carl served as a long-time deacon at First Baptist Church of Mount Dora. His gift in ministry was his service to the widowed, home-bound, and those living in nursing facilities.

He loved working with his hands and was an accomplished craftsman as a woodworker, bowl-turner, and stained glass artisan. His stained-glass work graces the narthex of the United Methodist Church of Mount Dora, the bell tower of the Family Ministry Center at First Baptist Church of Mt Dora, along with countless commercial and residential installations throughout the Southeast.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Robert and Nonie Rutherford Tucker; his wife Lola; son Joseph Alan; brothers Archie Robert and Walter Littleton. He is survived by his brother Dale Tucker (Marie) of Eustis, FL; daughter Carla Frey (Carl) of Umatilla, FL; daughter-in-law Lori Tucker of Tampa; grandchildren Joseph Tucker (Meghan) of Springfield, TN, Kelly Rothpletz (Chris) of Tampa, FL; Chuck Frey (Shayna); Amanda Pressley of Monroe, NC; Kebra Frey Campbell and Tyler Frey of Sorrento, Fl. He was the proud great-grandfather of twelve: Jackson, Knox, Emerson, and Lilly Tucker; Jacob Fout, Aerianna Womrath, Landon and Eisley Campbell; Wyatt, Asher, Gabriel, and Trinity Frey.
