IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carlene "Connie"
Park
May 20, 1930 – December 28, 2018
Carlene Park, aged 88, passed away peacefully on Friday December 28, 2018 at Health Central Park in Winter Garden, Florida. She was born on May 20, 1930 in a small rural house in Bell County, Kentucky to Bessie and Carl Davis. She was a 1947 graduate of Bell County High School in Bell County, Kentucky and obtained an Associates' equivalent from Nashville Business School in Nashville, Tennessee. She married Thomas E. Park (Ed) on October 24, 1953 following a short engagement.
Carlene Park, or Connie, worked in office administration at Kentucky Utilities, the electric power provider for southeastern Kentucky. After marrying, she and her husband moved to Maple Hts., Ohio, a southeastern suburb of Cleveland, and while raising her 3 children, she worked in the office of a medical practice, worked as an administrator at Holmes Manufacturing, a small machine shop proprietorship, and later served as the Executive Assistant at Schuler Pewter for the CEO and owner of the company.
In her younger years, Connie Park enjoyed the benefits of a rural upbringing, growing up with her cousins in southeastern Kentucky, wading, swimming and cruising the winding roads with great views of the Cumberland River and Pine Mountain as well as enjoying trips to Cumberland Falls. Connie Park always made friends very easily. As she grew up, she enjoyed duckpin bowling, just hanging out with her cousins and especially enjoyed shopping trips to Middlesboro, Kentucky with her closest cousin Rossie Durham. A friend was a friend forever for Connie, as wherever she went, in addition to making new friends, she retained long term relationships with old friends at all the places she lived throughout her life. Connie Park's greatest joy and legacy was her gentle spirit and consistent support for her family in all their endeavors, including her husband's long distance running and flying hobbies, and travelling with her children, whose careers required many trips across the United States and Europe. She and her two younger sisters met for ongoing semi-annual reunions, with rotating hosting responsibilities for each sister in Cleveland, Ohio, St. Louis, Missouri, Newfoundland, Canada and Mount Dora, Florida.
Connie Park was a dedicated woman of faith with a deep devotion to God, and who applied her humble attitude toward service to others throughout her life, including teaching the toddlers' Sunday school class at her church in Ohio for 30+ years. Connie deeply appreciated her friendships, and was never really capable of giving them up, or even cutting back on close ties. Thus, she and her husband spent 12 years in their effort to "move" from Ohio to Florida, maintaining separate homes allowing close fellowship and love with friends and families in both locations as they went back and forth multiple times each season and throughout the year.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Thomas (Ed), two sisters, Pat Ladi and Nanciellen Davis, one brother, David Davis, two sons David Park (& wife Linda) and Steven Park (& wife Martha), one daughter Amy Simoes (& husband Dorival), 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
Family, friends and all others Connie touched are invited to the ALLEN J. HARDEN FUNERAL HOME 1800 North Donnelly Street, Mount Dora FL 32757 from 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Wednesday January 2 to remember and reminisce about the good times shared with her.
