Carlton Nipper, 88, passed away on October 13, 2023. He was born in Kirkland, GA and grew up in Douglas, GA. He was the drum major for Douglas High School, before moving with his family to Leesburg, FL and attending Leesburg Senior High School. He enlisted in the United States Army where he served with honor in Korea and Vietnam. During his distinguished service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, 2 Good Conduct Medals, the Korean Service Medal and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, among others. He retired from the United States Army as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. After managing officers clubs in Germany, Japan and South Korea, he retired again from the United States Civil Service and returned to live in Florida. Carlton is survived by his stepchildren, Jutta (James) Devenish of Mississippi/UK and Oliver De Bardelaben of Germany, his grandchildren, William, Zachary and Eli Devenish of Mississippi/UK, his sister, Gwen (Bill) Gronlund of Florida, his brothers, Carroll and David Nipper of Georgia, and his niece Leigh (Jesse) Slater and nephew Doyle Finney of Florida. Carlton was a loving son, stepfather, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. Over the years, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, photography, golfing, cooking, and entertaining. He loved the beach, nature and seeing wildlife. A military funeral honors ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Florida National Cemetery 6502 SW 102 nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513 at 1:00 PM.
