IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Christine Elizabeth
Lommerse
August 4, 1927 – September 16, 2025
Christine Elizabeth Lommerse, born on August 4, 1927, in Marion, Virginia, to Ruby Elizabeth Snavely Scott and Hubert S. Scott, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025. Christine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
On March 17, 1951, Christine became a military wife when she married Joseph G. Lommerse, a handsome young Marine and the love of her life. Together they raised three daughters as they traveled from post to post. After Joe's retirement from active duty, they settled in Alexandria, Virginia. The couple was inseparable until Joe's passing in 1992.
Christine held many positions over her lifetime but was most proud of her 20-year career with The Hartford, where she was awarded numerous national accolades for her top performance. After retiring from The Hartford, in 1989, and never one to sit idly, she did volunteer work for the American Legion, the 1st Marine Division Association and Delray Hospital. In later years she kept busy with HOA activities and volunteer committees.
Christine loved genealogy, music, playing cards, crafting and gardening. She always had a project in the works; she particularly loved quilting, crocheting, knitting and beading. Like her mother, Ruby, before her, even as her sight was waning, Christine read her Bible every day.
Christine is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Schwartz of Deer Island, Florida, Patricia Zeugschmidt of Cary, North Carolina, and Kathleen MacDonald of Springfield, Virginia; her grandchildren, James, Joseph, Eric, Carly, Laura, Peter and William; her great-grandchildren, Stella, Willow, Travis, Jackson, Caden, Ruby and Michael, and her cat, Tiny.
Christine's kindness, love and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory will live on forever in the hearts of her family.
Christine will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Virginia, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved, Joseph. The date and time of service has yet to be determined.
