Claudia Jametra Van Scoy, 49, of Umatilla, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2026. Born on August 8, 1977, Claudia spent nearly her entire life in the Central Florida area, where she built a legacy of dedication, loyalty, and quiet strength.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, James Terry, Sr. and Cecelia Terry, whose memory she carried close to her heart. Claudia will be forever cherished by her husband of almost eight years, Shawn Van Scoy; her younger brother, James Terry, Jr. (Destiny); and a host of extended family members, colleagues, and friends who will forever feel the impact of her kindness and steady presence.

A proud graduate of Umatilla High School, class of 1995, Claudia devoted her professional life to public service. She spent over a decade as a Corrections Officer with the Lake Correctional Institution (Florida Department of Corrections), where she was known for her reliability, professionalism, and compassion. In April 2026, she continued her commitment to community safety by joining the Mt. Dora Police Department as the Evidence Property Clerk, a role she fulfilled with diligence and pride.

Claudia was a proud older sister to James and considered him not just her brother but one of her closest friends. When Claudia and Shawn met in 2013, it did not take long for her to recognize that she had found her forever person. She was a proud Dog Mom to Vader and Lando.

Those closest to her were often in awe of how she refused to let initial anxiety and fear keep her from trying new things. She loved motorcycles, her Jeep Rubicon, and camping trips with Shawn. As a student athlete at Umatilla High, Claudia excelled at track and basketball and had a lifelong passion for sports.

Claudia will be remembered for her unwavering work ethic, her deep love for her family, and the quiet but powerful way she supported those around her. Her sudden passing leaves a profound void in the lives of all who knew her, but her spirit, strength, and love will continue to live on in their hearts. Those who knew and loved her will forever carry the memory of her kind eyes and her amazing smile.
