DeMaris Alvernia Callen

April 17, 1928 – September 13, 2024

DeMaris Callen was the only child of Verne Chambers Eberhart and Bessie Leona (Thomas) Eberhart and was born in New Bethlehem, PA., on April 17, 1928. She married Robert Callen on May 22, 1953, in Freeport, PA.

De was fun. She was feisty! She was small but she was mighty. She was a teacher, a pilot, an artist. She lived life on her own terms. She was stalwart in friendship and a mentor to many. She was ahead of her time in many ways. In her twenties, she earned her pilot's license just to measure up to the challenge. Her sights remained on challenges. Well into her eighties, she drove alone from Florida to Ohio to visit friends. The word "can't" was foreign to De. She was passionate about travel and visiting foreign ports of call. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Bob, made beautiful memories exploring the USA, including Alaska, in their RV. Always with her eye on new challenges, she took up painting in her retirement years and painted with a passion. Her talents were both analytical and creative.

De left this life peacefully at 96 yrs old on September 13, 2024. Her husband and soulmate preceded her in death. It's fair to say that De left this world a better place. She lived a long, full life, touched many lives, and will be returned to her roots for interment in Sligo, Pennsylvania, next to her husband.

Many thanks to the staff of Lakeport Square Assisted Living, Debbie Gryniewicz and Robin Patrowicz of RPSeniorServices in Leesburg, Florida, for their love and care.
