Donal Alan ("Don") Dermody of Mount Dora passed away August 22, 2017. He was born August 18, 1929, in Maspeth, New York, and was one of four children. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 and served for two years in Korea, an experience that brought him pride and gratitude. After leaving the Army, he attended Cornell University, from which he received both undergraduate and graduate degrees. From 1965-1988, he taught at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration, from which he retired as Professor Emeritus. He thereafter moved to Florida and served as Dean of the School of Hospitality and Tourism at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale from 1988 to 1996. In 1997, he relocated to Mount Dora, a town he loved.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Catherine Dermody, and his pride and joy, his four children, Terence Dermody (Margot Dermody), John Dermody (Piera Dermody), Patricia Crooks (John Crooks), and Kelly Dermody (Billie Mizell), seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Don enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his wife and laughing with family and friends. He was loved by a big community and will be sorely missed.
