Obituary

Douglas Arthur Yerkes, 71, of Eustis unexpectedly passed from this world on Monday, May 30, 2016. He was born June 8, 1944 in Pittsfield, MA to Arthur Yerkes and Frances Arlene (Chipman) Yerkes. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1962 and honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserves. Doug became a permanent resident of Central FL with his wife, Debbie, on Christmas week of 1969. He and his brother-in-law, Dave, started D&D Custom Remodeling in Mt. Dora on January 1, 1975 and ran it faithfully for 38 years. He was also an active and devoted member of St. Philip Lutheran Church since 1976.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Deborah Yerkes and his daughter Genya Yerkes, both of Eustis; his sister Jane Stratton (Dave) of Mt. Dora; nieces Inger Gerbasi (Patrick), Holly Stratton, Julie Stratton Boyd, Sheree Beal (Bobby), Becky Ogburn (John), and Robin Hampton (Guy); nephews Scott Yerkes (Beth) and Brian Robertson (Joyce); and many cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Frances, step-mother Jean Yerkes, brother Robert Yerkes, and niece Lori Stratton Farley.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Philip Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Doug's honor to Habitat for Humanity http://www.habitat.org/ or to St. Philip Lutheran Church http://www.stphiliplc.com/ Arrangements are entrusted to Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mt. Dora.
