Obituary

Dr. Elmer Alvie Wolford, 89, a resident of Mt. Dora, FL., went to meet his Lord on Monday, September 5, 2016. Dr. Wolford was born January 26, 1927 in Flint, MI. a son of the late Elmer and Flora [Story] Wolford.

He attended the Flint, MI area schools and graduated with honors. On May 5, 1945 he married the former Laural June Youmans of Millington, Michigan. The couple recently celebrated 71 years of marriage. Immediately upon graduation he entered the US Army Aircorp. After serving in the Army he joined the Army Reserves.

His vocational work career was primarily with AC Spark Plug, MI & WI, and Martin Marietta, FL, retiring in 1991. The passion of his life was serving as pastor/mentor of small churches with the Church of God. He served as interim pastor in Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida, with a full-time pastorate in Missouri and full time at Church Extension in Anderson, IN.

Dr. Wolford was an avid learner and earned his BA late in life. After retirement, he earned a Masters and Doctorate degree in Theology from Andersonville School of Theology. He wrote and published two [2] Christian Books: "Unfold the Mystery of Daniel and Revelation", a re-write of his great uncle, Dr F G Smith, and "YOU were on the Mind of Christ", with a third book ready to be published.

He had a strong love for his family. His kind spirit always made you welcome. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed his studies and writing. Most recently he attended the First Church of God, Eustis, FL.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Wolford is survived by five [5] sons: Gary and his wife, Lyndal, of SC; Donnie and his wife, Patti, of FL; Lonny and his wife, Carolyn, of PA; Kevin and his wife, Rena, of NC; and Paul and his wife, Rachael, of FL. Also surviving are seventeen [17] grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Wolford was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Ward and Madeline Wolford, and one brother Orville Wolford.

Allen J. Harden Funeral Home of Mt Dora, FL is handling all arrangements. Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 AM , Friday, September 9, 2016 followed directly by a celebration of his life at 11:00 AM at the First Church of God, Eustis FL. Rev. Ronald Holder and Rev. James Irving officiating.

Interment will follow in the Pine Forest Cemetery in the 1800 block of North Donnelly St., Mt Dora, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First Church of God, 1550 N Highway 19, Eustis, FL. 32726.
