Obituary

Our beloved Evelyn Smith-Hyland went home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2025, at the age of 84.

Evelyn was born on May 4, 1941, and throughout her life she was known for her strength, compassion, and deep love for her family. She had a heart big enough to hold everyone she met and a spirit that could brighten even the darkest days. Her laughter, wisdom, and kindness will forever be remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.

Evelyn leaves behind a beautiful and loving family — eight children Glenroy Bennett, Anthony Bennett, Joseph Smith, Joy Mullings,Michael, Smith,Leroy Smith, Yvonne Smith and Judy Hyland, twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren — each of whom was touched by her endless love and gentle guidance. She also leaves to cherish her memory one dear sister, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to carry her love in their hearts.

She now joins in eternal rest her beloved first husband, Gerald, and her late husband Hugh Hyland, as well as her mother and father, her dear sisters Avonia and Nerrissa, and her brothers Asbert, David, George, and Dolphus, who welcomed her home with open arms.

Evelyn's life was a reflection of faith, family, and unconditional love. She was the heart of her family — a woman who taught by example how to be strong, kind, and full of grace. Though she is no longer here with us, her spirit will live on through the countless lives she has touched.

"Those we love don't go away,
They Walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, and very dear."

Forever in our hearts, mom, aunty, grandma, friend — your love will never fade.
