PHILLIPS, GEORGIA MERIWETHER, Georgia Meriwether Phillips, 90, of Mount Dora, peacefully passed away on Wednesday 24 February 2016 after an extended illness at Brookdale Tavares in Lake County, Florida.
She was a long time resident of Mount Dora and was active in Lake County as a merchant in Mount Dora from 1955 to 1975, Director of Lake County Chapter of the American Red Cross in the 1970s. She was member and Chairman of the Lake County School Board in the 1980s, an active member of the Lake County Republican Party from 1955 onward, serving as Florida Republican Party State Committeewoman for Lake County from 1986-2011. She was also active in the Lake County League of Women Voters and the Business & Professional Women's organization, Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce, Junior Women's Club, and United Methodist Women's Club as a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora from 1955 through the time of her passing.
Georgia is survived by her sister, Margaret Tompkins; three children, Beverly Phillips Gilder, Judi Phillips Jones, and Ronald Scott Phillips; five grandchildren, Donna Plaster, Jeff Jones, Rick Gilder, Janson Jones, and Douglas Phillips; and nine great grandchildren.
A public memorial viewing for Georgia will be held Sunday 28 February, 6:30-8:00pm, at Allen J Harden Funeral Home at 1800 N. Donnelly Street in Mount Dora FL 32757. Public Funeral services for Georgia will be held at First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora 439 E 5th Avenue, Mount Dora FL 32757 on Monday 29 February, 1:00 pm, followed by a graveside service for the family.
