Glenn A. Christians,95, of Mount Dora, FL, entered into Heaven to meet his savior on September 19, 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Melissa Brousseau Christians, his son Scott(Cheryl), and grandsons Jason and Griffin all of Austin, TX.
A native of Klemme, Iowa, Glenn enlisted in the Navy during WWII. He was sunk three times by German U-boats but miraculously survived. He was part of a secret mission to deliver ammunition and supplies to the French Resistance. During that operation, they hit a mine and he was the sole survivor. For the sacrifices he made, the government of France conferred upon him the prestigious Legion of Honor Award in 2015.
Upon discharge from the Navy, Glenn went to college on the GI Bill of Rights, and received both his BS and Masters in Engineering. His career included positions at Clark Equipment, International Harvester, and Massey Ferguson which was later purchased by Agco Corporation. He specialized in marketing until his retirement from Agco Atlanta at the age of 75.
In 1947, he married Kathryn Reiter. They lived in Milwaukee, WI, where their son Scott was born in 1952. Kathryn died in 1991.
Glenn married Melissa Brousseau, in Des Moines in July, 1993. Melissa has two children. A son Chad(Kelly) Brousseau and their children Lauren and Sean of Hillsboro, IA., and a daughter Kelly Brousseau Larsen and her daughter Lily of West Des Moines, IA. The Christians lived in Atlanta before retiring to Mount Dora in 1998. They were faithful members at First Baptist Church of Umatilla.
Glenn and Melissa were very active in the Mount Dora Yacht Club, where his 95 th birthday was recently celebrated with family and friends on September 9.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday September 25 th with a gathering at 10AM and a service at 11AM at Allen J Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora, FL. Glenn Christians has established an Engineering Scholarship Fund with the Mount Dora Community Trust. In lieu of flowers he requested contributions be made to the scholarship fund at PO Box 1451 Mount Dora, FL 32756.
A military service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa at a later date.
