Obituary

Gloria Jean (Hunter) Jewett, 82 of Mount Dora, Florida, passed away after a battle with cancer on March 17, 2024, at Cornerstone Hospice, Tavares, Florida with loving Husband Bill at her side.

She was born in Zanesville, Ohio, April 10, 1941, as the first child of Earl Raymond and Lulu Florence Hunter.  Both preceded Gloria in death.  Gloria was also preceded in death of two sisters, Barbara Yahn and Rita Hess, both of Zanesville, Ohio.

She attended Grant Grade School, Grover Cleveland Junior High School and Zanesville High School, all in Zanesville, Ohio.  She was a member of the National Honor Society.

Gloria lived in many towns and was a stay at home mother during some stops (Zanesville, Ohio-Louisville, Ohio-Jackson, Ohio-Metropolis, Illinois-Dillsboro, Indiana-Pomeroy, Ohio and West Lafayette, Ohio) all due to husband Bill's job transfers.  She held various part time and full time jobs including, Cable Television, Church Secretary, Physical Therapist Assistant, several Medical field positions and near the end of her career was the Office Manager for five great Physicians and one Physical Assistant in Coshocton, Ohio.  She retired in 2003 and moved to Mount Dora, Florida with husband Bill.  During her retirement, she worked part time 12 years at Walt Disney World.

On April 8, 1960 in Fair Oaks Baptist Church, Zanesville, Ohio, one year after graduation from high school (Class of 1959) she married her Junior High School sweetheart and lifelong partner, William (Bill) Jewett, they were both 18.  They were together, side by side, hand in hand for over 24,000 days.  They were married just short of 64 years.

Gloria loved reading, especially on her Kindle, the beach, lighthouses, gnomes, Disney, baseball, traveling and being with her friends from Ohio and Florida.  Gloria was an excellent baseball score keeper (she knew the difference between an error and a base hit).  Many of Gloria and Bill's travels usually included a stop at one of the many different Major League baseball stadiums in the country.  Gloria enjoyed playing Bridge, Mah Jongg (she was a member of the National Mah Jongg League), Bunco and Farkle with her Florida friends.

She loved her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and great grandchild, but most of all she loved a skinny left-handed baseball pitcher from Grover Cleveland Junior High School and stayed by his side for nearly 67 years.  She will be missed.

She is survived by her husband William Chester Jewett of Mount Dora, Florida, daughter Debra LaPrade of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, son Deron Jewett of Mount Dora, Florida, grandson Timothy White (Sandy), of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina,  granddaughter Sandra Lynn White-Powell of Parkersburg, West Virginia and a great grandchild Christopher White of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

In respect for Gloria's last wishes, no services were planned.

Donations to the American Cancer Society in her name would be appreciated.
