Grace Chiodi
Age 93
Born in Baltimore, MD November 7, 1921
Died in Winter Park, FL November 13, 2014
Grace died peacefully with her three children by her side.
She was the daughter of Arthur and Frances DeCrescent and had three sisters, Constance Spinnato, Eria Weaver and Marlene Pryor. Her three grandchildren are Chloe, Abi and Ziqin. She graduated from Mt. Sydney High School in Mt. Sydney, VA, Class of 1938. She was married to Albert Martin Chiodi on July 24, 1942 in
Staunton, VA and remained happily married for 54 years until his death in 1996.
Grace lived in numerous places across the USA including: Staunton, VA; Baltimore, MD; Lake Worth, FL;
Denver, CO; Fallston, MD; Ocala, FL and Mt. Dora, FL.
Grace loved music, nature, travel and spending time with family. She made many long journeys just to be able
to hug her sisters, children or grandchildren. She was awed by nature and loved birds, animals and the earth's natural wonders. She was intrigued by different cultures and people and could start up a conversation with anyone at anytime. Whether traveling in US, China, Mexico, Canada, England, France, Spain or Italy she had a friendly smile for anyone she met. She was especially drawn to England and Italy. Her last trip to Europe was in the summer of 2013 at the age of 91 and the highlight was being with all her children and grandchildren in Florence. She inherited her love of music from her father, Arthur, who played the guitar and wrote verse. She could always be heard singing or humming along to songs and music of all types and took great joy in listening to her granddaughters sing and perform.
Graces's Italian heritage taught her the importance of family and food. The two were rarely separate. You could not cross her doorstep without being offered a meal and you never left with an empty stomach. Her sisters Connie, Eria and Marlene were very dear to her as were her grandchildren, Chloe, Abi, and Ziqin. She never stopped expressing how much she loved and appreciated her children, Al, Linda and Rob. Albert was the love of her life and after his death adjusting to life on her own was difficult. However, in the last 18 years of her life without him she became a stronger, independent woman who never forgot the love they shared.
Grace was Catholic and had a very personal relationship with God. She shied away from the rituals of the
Church and organized religion but believed in a higher power and life after death.
Grace is survived by her children and their spouses; Albert Martin Chiodi Jr. and Gale Grindle Chiodi of
Orlando, FL; Linda Ann Koontz and John Peebles Koontz of Summerfield, FL; Robert Charles Chiodi and Paul Alexander Blair of Malmesbury, England, UK; her grandchildren; Chloe Diane Koontz, Abigale Rose Chiodi and Zoe Ziqin Chiodi; as well as her sisters; Constance Spinnato of Broomfield,CO and Marlene Pryor of Loveland, CO and Hutchinson Island, FL.
