Hartman Lewis Burrrows was the first child of the union of Flora Ellen "Bouncy" Burrows nee Turnquest and Wellington Alexander Burrows. He was born on the 28rd of September 1928 at Deadmans Cay, Long Island Bahamas.
Lewis attended Buckleys All Age School and learned to fish and farm from his parents. He would enjoy fishing for the rest of his life, owning a boat until he sold it in his later years. He learnt the inland waterways around his home and became an avid boater and fisherman sharing his love with family and friends.
Lewis left Long Island after completing school and worked in Nassau Bahamas for a short time. He took advantage of the Contract between the US and the Bahamas to enter the US in the early 50's. Afterwards he got into long distance trucking and landscaping. He had learnt thrift and industriousness from his parents and put his earnings to good use marrying the love of his life May Francis after purchasing a home in Mt Dora, Fl.
Lewis was hospitalized for a short period about 2 years ago, after which time he had to take it easy up until his death.
Lewis was pre deceased by his wife May Frances, his parents Welly and Bouncy, and his sister LaGloria (Dovie) McCardy, his memory will be forever cherished in the hearts of his siblings Eric, Rodney, Wellington (Buster), Iris, Iva (Daisy), Swinburn (Finney), Edward, Theresa, Randolph and Joan, Sisters-in-Law Mary Burrows, Mary Gilmore, and Francis Grant, Brother-in-Law Roland McCardy. His God Daughters Valerie Brown-Gray; Diamon(his ward and her baby Mica), Juwan, Ja-Quan, Da-Janique: and LaTayna Perry. Nephews Darius Gilmore and Leroy Bynum.Neice Emma Gilmore along with 39 other nieces and nephews in the US and the Bahamas.
Best friends, Lewins Major, Hinton Burrows, Victor Turnquest, Brown, Ernest, Ettienne (AKA Ile-re), Winston and Horace.
Pastor Valerie Brown and his church brothers and sisters at New Life House of Prayer along with the Jefferson Dr, and Mount Dora Crew in addition to other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A Memorial Service will be held at the chapel of Allen J Harden Funeral Home 1800 N Donnelly St Mt Dora, FL 32757 at 10 am on Friday 13 March 2015.
