Obituary

James Liffus Moore III was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at the age of 93.

The oldest of five children, Jim was born June 1, 1932 in Somerset, Kentucky to James Liffus Moore Jr. and Dorothy Dean Kelly. He spent the majority of his childhood in Danville, Kentucky. Upon graduation from Danville High School, he joined the Navy and served as an Aviation Electrician. Soon after, he met and married Charlotte Painter and they began a family. After his service in the Navy, he attended the University of Kentucky. In 1958, his Navy training led the family to Cape Canaveral where Jim accepted a job with a NASA contractor which launched his career in the Aerospace industry. He was part of the Mercury, Navaho, Gemini, Apollo and Sky Lab missions. In 1974, the family relocated to Kentucky and worked with BF Goodrich (Westlake) from which he retired. After retirement, he and Charlotte returned to live in Florida where on June 16th, 2025 they celebrated their 74th Wedding Anniversary.

Jim was a 63-year member of the Masonic Lodge. A member of Mount Dora Lodge No. 238, the York Rite Masonic bodies (KYCH), and many affiliated Masonic bodies including Mount Dora Chapter No. 103 Order of the Eastern Star.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Ann Painter; Daughters Cindy Preston, Kelly Krone, Michelle Wise (husband Leo); son James Liffus Moore IV (wife Vania); Sisters, Sue Tutt and Judith Mosing; along with Grand Children, Corey Krone Jansen (husband Aaron), Russell Denise Krone II, Charlotte Preston, Rachael Moore, and James Liffus Moore V; Great Granddaughters, Kinsey and Hayden Jansen, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Jim enjoyed many activities throughout his long life. First on that list was his love and devotion to his family, followed by his love of dogs especially his beloved Gypsy. Jim was a born storyteller and if you ever met him, you were a friend, because he never met a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Moore; siblings, Nancy Baker and William Kinsey Moore, Sr.

Funeral Service are Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 3:00 pm at Allen J. Harden Funeral Chapel, Mount Dora, Florida. Visitation is from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
