Obituary

John Lawton Newlan, born July 19, 1932 in St. Augustine, Florida, went to be with his Lord on March 23, 2016. He was the first born son of Walter Raleigh Newlan and Winnie Irene Spears Newlan. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Margaret L. Newlan, by his daughter Nancy A. Newlan of Eustis, Florida, two brothers, Walter Raleigh Newlan Jr. of Ocala, Florida and Davis Leon Newlan (Cindy) of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Irene Newlan Watkins Widdoes and his youngest brother, Edward Allen Newlan.

He attended Palm Beach High but joined the U. S. Marine Corps prior to getting his diploma. He was a Korean combat soldier and was there when the US was fighting for every inch at the 38th parallel. While in the service, he was assigned to the Engineering Division and served as a demolition expert and helped clear the mine fields for the troops. He was a decorated veteran having won several metals as well as four battle metals.

John was a gifted individual. There was very little that he could not fix or figure out how to fix. He was always willing to share his talents with neighbors who needed his assistance.

He always had a funny joke to tell and had that twinkle in his eye that let you know he enjoyed life to the fullest.

He will be missed greatly by friends & family.
