Linda McHugh, age 86, of Mt. Dora, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on September 16, 2026.
Born on August 12, 1940, in Old Town, Maine, she was the daughter of Evelyn and Charles Littlefield and was raised by her beloved grandparents, Andrew and Emillie Violette. She grew up in Old Town, where she often spoke fondly of her love of school, the caring nuns at her Catholic grade school, her love of reading, and her first job as a teenager at Woolworth’s. She was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor, Maine. There, at age 15, she attended her first dance with the young man who would become her lifelong soulmate.
She married the love of her life, Robert McHugh, on September 1, 1958. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage, building a beautiful life centered around family, love, travel, and faith.
Linda devoted her life to raising and caring for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She found great joy in reading, traveling, knitting, working on puzzles, cheering on the Red Sox, and watching British mysteries. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including the simple joy of building sandcastles together on the beach. Her Catholic faith guided her throughout her life, and she was a source of comfort, encouragement, and inspiration to those around her.
Above all, her family was the center of her world. She had a remarkable way of being there whenever someone needed her—offering encouragement during difficult times, celebrating the good times, and reminding those she loved to look for the good, be kind, and work hard.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert McHugh, her children, Marie (Ernie) Markey, Cheryl (Mickey) Maggy, Bob (Doreen) McHugh, her grandchildren, Allison Maggy-Wood (Joel), Kyle Maggy (Ashton), Trevor Markey (Courtney), Jake McHugh (Alex), James McHugh, her great-grandchildren, Sophia Wood, Weston, Nolan, and Tripp Markey, and baby McHugh on the way, her siblings Larry (Val) Littlefield, Alan (Gloria) Littlefield and many nieces and nephews, family members, and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her sister, Nancy Girouard.
A mass will be held on September 25 at 9:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Mt. Dora, Florida.
While it is impossible to capture such a beautiful life in just a few words, Linda’s legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply and in the values she passed on to them. She will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
Arrangements are under the careful care of Allen J. Harden Funeral Home.
