Lonnie Ray Fisher

7/6/1960 – 8/13/2020

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lonnie Ray Fisher of Sorrento, FL announce his untimely death on Thursday August 13, 2020. Just 5 short weeks after celebrating his 60 th birthday, Lonnie was called home to our Lord after a harrowing battle against the COVID-19 virus.

Born to Buddy and Maggie Fisher on July 6, 1960 in Eustis, FL, Lonnie is survived by his parents, his brothers, Rickey, Randy, Joey, and sister Debbie. He bore the role of eldest son with pride and led the way for lots of raucous antics with his siblings. Whether it was driving on the median after school pick-up time, or running off to the beach and playing pranks, he always had a twinkle of mischief in his eye. Lonnie's laughter was infectious and emanated from his belly through any room that he entered. He was raised up in the Church of Christ and became a Christian when he was baptized on September 9, 1973.

Lonnie will be most remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Cynthia Anne Fisher (nay Fassett) from Malone, NY. Married October 6, 2001, the two enjoyed nearly 20 years of marriage, with a total of 26 years together. Lonnie attributed much of his success to the steadfast love and support of his wife, often asserting that the sound of her voice everyday helped keep him focused while he was away from home.

Lonnie leaves behind 5 children: Crystal Fisher, Farrah Lawrence (nay Fisher), Christopher Fisher, Cheyanne Fisher, and Dakoda Fisher. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, (Jasiah, Daphne, Dalton, Hunter, Jaslene, and Melvin), 3 extended sons (Ken, Stephan, and Melvin), 7 nieces and 1 nephew. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and could never pass up an opportunity to brag about them to anyone who would listen. He taught them the value of hard work and a positive attitude, often speaking to them through song lyrics and quotes. His very own favorite quote being – "Sometimes things don't work out the way you want them to, but you got to be strong enough to handle it."

Lonnie was a graduate of Mount Dora High School, class of 1978 and was also a decorated military veteran, having served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves for 13 years, and completing a tour in the Desert Storm War during 1990-91. Upon returning from the war, he worked in machinery at Crown, Cork, and Seal and later did propane gas delivery. Eventually, he followed in the footsteps of his father Buddy and began an illustrious career as a professional truck driver with BWI . Most recently, he worked for Oakley Transport Inc. , based in Lake Wales and carried loads locally and across the country.

He reveled in visiting new places and sharing pictures with his family back home. He was always on the go and would tell them to "live in the moment," often impulsively jumping at any opportunity that seemed exciting, such as dancing off-beat at concerts, whitewater rafting in Tennessee, and swinging from trees like Tarzan. While Lonnie loved life and adventure, he also took his responsibilities very seriously, and never left a job undone. He was always busy with an endless list of projects, some of which he would start, restart, and even tear apart in the chase to get them "just right."

Lonnie was fondly known as "Lonzo" and "Fish" by those who were close with him and was easily recognized around town and on the road by his signature hat and Broncos and Braves t-shirts. He loved his sports teams and one of his favorite pastimes was playing golf with his brothers, sons, and father. Lonnie's generosity, kindness, and humility led him to never know a stranger and it is a comfort to know his legacy will carry on for generations.

Due to the unique circumstances of the current pandemic, the memorial service will be limited to immediate family only. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled at a later date when it is safe to do so, but until then we urge everyone to continue to minimize the spread of the virus by following safety recommendations. All are encouraged to pay their respects and share uplifting stories and condolences with the family. Arrangements are being handled by Allen J. Harden Funeral Home in Mount Dora, FL.
