Obituary

Madelyn Irene LeMay Turner was born on May 19, 1934 in Battle Creek, Michigan. She passed peacefully on May 22, 2022 in Lake County, Florida.

Though born in Michigan, Madelyn was raised in rural Red Bank, Alabama and graduated from Hazlewood High School in Town Creak, Alabama. After graduation, she moved to Birmingham and worked at a bank until she was expecting her first child. Madelyn was a stay at home mom to her children for most of their younger years. Although she held various part time jobs at times, in 1977 she went to work for the United States Postal Service, eventually becoming a Postmaster. She retired in 1997 after nearly 20 years.

Madelyn enjoyed many types of crafts throughout her life, including quilting, knitting, crocheting, cake decorating, etc. She sewed clothes for herself and her children throughout the years. Other interests included bowling and scuba diving. She learned to scuba dive while the family was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Prior to that time, she did not even know how to swim.

Madelyn was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Ivy Lee Turner. She is survived by her children Anna Leisa Ely (Dwayne), Roger Lee Turner (Sandra), Robert Wade Turner (Traci), Barbara Jean Turner, and Carolyn Sue Williams (Jimmy). She is also survived by her nephew Robert "Buddy" Norton (Jean). She is survived by 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
