IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Anne
Woodward
November 1, 1941 – March 7, 2019
Margaret (Peggie) Anne Woodward (nee Hagan) passed away on March 7, 2019 at the age of 77 in Mt. Dora, Florida. After several years of declining health, she is now home in heaven with her beloved Bob, her parents, the angels, and her Lord, Jesus Christ
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Woodward, and her parents, Anne and T. Albert Hagan. She is survived by her stepson, Robert Woodward Jr. (Lorraine), and two grandsons, Alexander and Nathan. She is also survived by two brothers, Terry Hagan (Linda) and Dan Hagan (Amy) and 5 nieces and nephews: Tracy, Christopher, Denver, Marta and Meredith.
She was a joy to everyone who knew her, was always full of laughter, and, like her mom and dad, definitely had a wonderful impish side accompanied by a classic Irish twinkle in her eye. She was born in Philadelphia on November 1, 1941 and grew up in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania. She attended St. Dorothy's grammar school, Notre Dame High School-Moylan, and Gwynedd-Mercy College.
In the early 1960's, she worked for Dr. Henry L. Bockus in Philadelphia where she helped prepare for publication his Three Volume Treatise on Gastroenterology. In 1969, she moved to Washington D.C. where she began her career at the National Underground Utility Contractors Association (NUCA). Rising to the position of a Senior Executive, she oversaw NUCA's annual conferences throughout the United States. The highlight of her career was coordinating speakers and entertainment for these annual conferences. She met her husband, Bob, through NUCA and worked there until her retirement in 2004.
Following their retirements, she and Bob built their dream home in Mt. Dora, Florida, and moved there in 2006. Bob passed away in 2010 of Alzheimers and she moved to a villa at Waterman Village in Mt. Dora where she continued to enjoy the warm weather she and Bob had been seeking. She made friends with the dedicated staff at Waterman, especially her long-term Physical Therapist, Stephen Boone, her special friend, Rosa V, and her long-term devoted personal companion, Vikki Cullen.
Peggie loved everything Irish - Irish music, Irish humor, Irish dancing, Irish crystal, Irish Claddagh jewelry, Irish potatoes, and, of course, St. Patrick's Day! Her trip to Ireland with her parents, where she was able to visit the four hometowns of her grandparents, was one of the highlights of her life. Another major influence in her life was her faith. After being raised in an Irish Catholic family, she and Bob joined and became very active in the Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfax, Virginia, which was directly across the street from their home. They remained active in the Lutheran Church in Florida while Bob was alive. Peggie returned to her Catholic roots while at Waterman.
The family wants to thank Cornerstone Hospice in Taveras for the tender care they provided to Peggie during her final days.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Fisher House Foundation or Cornerstone Hospice of Taveras, Florida. A memorial service for Peggie will be held at a later date.
And so, from Peggie to all of you, her favorite Irish blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
