Obituary

GOTTWIK - Marjorie ("Bonnie") Kalaidjian, of Mount Dora and Tavares, Florida, passed away on January 15, 2016. She was born in Troy, New York on November 7, 1915 and recently had three 100th birthday celebrations with many family members and friends at the Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora, with colleagues from the GFWC Mount Dora Women's Club and with her many friends at Brookdale Tavares. She attended Nyack High School in Nyack, New York and was a graduate of the University at Albany School of Education, State University of New York. She was a teacher of high school mathematics for many years at the Great Neck Public Schools, Great Neck, NY, and continued to tutor children and adults well into her 90's. She received numerous letters of gratitude over the years from students who appreciated her efforts as a caring and effective teacher. She served for many years as Public Affairs Chairman for the Mount Dora Women's Club, attended City, District and State council meetings, provided regular newsletters to her members on public issues and opportunities for civic improvement and even organized a trip for fellow members to the GFWC State Wide Days in Tallahassee, FL. She was a delegate to the 1995 bipartisan White House Conference on Aging that was the fourth conference since 1961, joining more than 2,250 delegates from all 50 states. She was also a member of the AAUW of Lake County, AARP and Common Cause. She served as Secretary of the Class of 1936 University at Albany Alumni Association in the late 90's.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Mihran Tatios Kalaidjian and Aimee Gillies Kalaidjian, her beloved children Peter and Paula Gottwik, her brothers Robert and Rev. William Kalaidjian and her sister, Ruth K. Davis. She is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Tayler, her brother Edward and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She will be remembered as a model of positivity and determination, as well as for her sharp wit, her love of debate, her support of liberal causes, her flair for colorful fashion, her poetry and devotion to her students.
