Obituary

Martha Adelaide Hood Herron passed away peaceful on February 7, 2020. She was a 1953 graduate of
University of Alabama (Pre-Law and Political Science with a specialty in International Politics) and
enjoyed singing and traveling with her now late husband, Eldon L. Herron. Martha was born on an
Easter Sunday, April 16, 1933 (therefore was known in the family as Aunt Bunny) at Walter Reed
Hospital in Washington D.C. She is the daughter of her late parents, Major General Reuben C. Hood, Jr.
and Emma-Clinton Thomas Hood. Martha lived in the Mount Dora area since 1977 and was a realtor for
many years. Martha was a linguist and loved writing. She loved music and sang in many church choirs at
St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Other interests included archeology, boating, baseball, art, jazz,
symphonic music, architecture, opera (she and her late husband enjoyed almost 100 different operas),
travel and charity. She was also active with the Mount Dora Yacht Club and authored a book about the
history of the club. Other interests included the Verdi Society of the Orlando Opera, Heritage Society of
the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Lake County Association of Realtors, the Antique and Classic Boat
Society, and the Kiwanis Club of Mount Dora. She served as a board member of the Community Concert
Series in Mount Dora, and sang with the Mount Dora Community Choir.
She is survived by her two sons, Steven Eugene Herron and Thomas Hood Herron (Robin). Grandchildren
included Ashley Lauren Herron, Lindsay Emma Reed (Alex), Evan Thomas Herron and Caden Robert
Herron. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Emma Reed and Tessa Reed.
