Obituary

Mary Ellen Carter Drier, 90, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, in Mount Dora, Florida.

Born in Ocala, Florida, she graduated from Florida State University with a degree in education and was a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She first worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines before beginning her career as a teacher. Later, she became a successful model, appearing in commercials for Carnival Cruise Lines. Her elegance, poise, and radiant smile made her unforgettable to all who knew her — and to those who saw her on screen.

Mary Ellen lived in Miami, St. Croix, and Costa Rica before settling in Mount Dora, Florida, where she and her beloved husband, Bill, became deeply involved in the antique wooden boat community. Together, they formed lasting friendships and shared a passion for classic craftsmanship and life on and off the water.

Mary Ellen continued to explore whenever she could, always eager for her next journey. Whether traveling internationally, across the country, or enjoying the natural beauty of Florida, she approached life with curiosity, grace, and gratitude.

She will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her kindness, and the joy she found in both far-off destinations and simple moments at home. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a life well traveled.

She is survived by her daughters, Penny Baeza (Javier) and Maria Elena Carlisle (John), and three grandchildren, Javier, Nikolas, and Julia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Drier and her brother, Walter Finley.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care she received. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice House.
