IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jan
Powers
May 24, 1946 – April 2, 2025
Mary (Molly) Jan Powers, born May 24, 1946, passed peacefully at home on April 2, 2025, reuniting with her beloved husband, Roland, whom she missed dearly every day. Born in Buffalo, NY, Molly graduated from Grand Island high school then met her husband Roland at a church event. They married in 1967 on Grand Island surrounded by family and friends.
Molly and Roland began their family life in Washington State, where they raised 5 children on a farm. Life there was filled with animals and gardening, camping, and fishing. She urged outdoor activities for her kids to explore and to get some peace and quiet to watch her favorite game shows. She later became a contestant on Concentration and loved watching her favorite show, Jeopardy, where she loved to learn new things and prided herself in beating her family!
Moving to various states for Roland's work, Molly returned to Grand Island to retire from her work as a skycap, continuing her work as a bartender at the Moose Lodge. Here she filled her life with her love of people, sharing stories, laughter and service to her community. Her love for volunteering shone through at the Grand Island VFW's July 4th celebrations and the Rod and Gun Club's Spring Fling where her warmth and wit brightened countless days. Molly's spirit, infectious laugh and big smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Molly was the heart and glue of her family, leaving behind a cherished legacy. A vibrant soul, Molly lit up every party with her infectious energy and the biggest smile, always eager to share joy and good times with family and friends.
Molly is survived by her children: Bridget, Marie (Steve), Christina, Roy, and Robyn; grandchildren: Jessica, Justin (Jamie), Morgan, Dylan, Haley, Samantha, Blake, Delaney, Riley, Gavin, Jackson, and Ethan; and great-grandchildren: Nazyre, Julia, and Keiara.
