Michael David Pierce, 79, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 in Eustis, Florida. He was born in Hudson, Ohio the youngest of five children to McDonald H. Pierce, Sr and Jean Ross Pierce. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1956 and headed to Chicago to study Television and Radio Electronics, receiving his certificate from Devry Technical Institute in 1957.
In August 1957 Mike enlisted in the US Army as a Radar Tracking Operator and was discharged in July 1963 with the rank of Sargent SP5. He moved to Florida where he went to Elgin Air Force Base to work for Vitro on the Gulf Test Range for 6 months.
He began his long career in the telephone industry shortly thereafter, retiring from Sprint in 1999. He developed a hobby of collecting antique phones, quirky phones, and phone memorabilia. Kids of all ages loved to see his wonderful collection.
Mike never married but doted on his nieces and nephews, and he had many friends, traveling often for visits. He volunteered with Boy Scouts, served in the Otto Wettstein, Jr Pioneer ( telephone) Club, was active with church and served many years on the Vestry at St Andrew Orthodox Church in Eustis.
Known for coloring his beard green for St Patrick's Day each year, Michael and his sense of fun will be sorely missed.
May he rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him. Amen.
