Mildred Talley Boyd died peacefully at her home in Eustis, Florida on December 17, 2020. A
private graveside service was held by her family at the Pine Forest Cemetery, Mount Dora, Florida
where she was interred next to her husband, Orvel H. Boyd.Born in Granada, Colorado to Fredrick and Clara Talley on January 18, 1923, Mildred isurvivedby two daughters, Melba Boyd Meriwether and Nelda Boyd (Scott) Mayberry, both of Nashville,
Termessee, and a son, William O. "Bill" (Joan) Boyd, Apopka, Florida, daughter-in-law, Adrian
Boyd Bradley, and many grand and great grandchildren. Mildred was preceded in death by her
husband, Orvel H. Boyd, a son, LaMontt (Monty) Boyd, an infant daughter, Patti Jo Boyd, and
son-in-law, James Meriwether. She was also preceded by two sisters, Vera Talley Byrd and Ruby
Talley Hayes.Mildred graduated from Lincoln High School, Tacoma, Washington in 1941, and later earned her
undergraduate degree from Pepperdine University, and a Masters of Education degree from the
University of Florida. Mildred met Orvel Boyd while they were both students at Pepperdine and they married on July 20,
1945. After graduating, Mildred and Orvel moved to Florida in 1946 to teach at the Christian Home
and Bible School (now Mount Dora Christian Academy) in Mount Dora which had started classes
in 1945. In addition to teaching at the "Mount Dora Bible School", as it was commonly called,
Mildred also taught for many years in both the Lake and Sumter County, Florida school systems.
She finished her more than 40 years of teaching as the elementary school principal of the Christian
Home and Bible School, and then served the school as a member of the Executive Board of
Trustees for many years.
In addition to teaching and being an administrator, Mildred was very involved in giving of herself
in many other ways, including: the childcare program for homeless children at the Christian Home
and Bible School, where she and Orvel served as house parents on campus on many occasions,
and also cared for more than 50 children in their home through the years, the Central Florida Bible
Camp, organizing the Orange Avenue Church of Christ in Eustis, Florida, and countless mission
trips to Jamaica.
Mildred Boyd was greatly loved and admired by not only her family, but by many more. She made
an eternal impact on thousands throughout her life of service to others, and to her Lord.
