IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mildred Grace
Detwiler
August 10, 1931 – September 29, 2021
When God made her, He said "Let her be kind and gentle and thoughtful and loving beyond compare. Let her put all other's needs and desires above her own so that she represents My love like no other." And that was Milly Biever Detwiler.
An avid gardener, Milly spent most of her retired years making the world more beautiful. Even at the age of eighty-nine she would spend four to five hours a day planting and weeding and watering. She sowed seeds of joy in all the people she met and especially those she knew and loved. She initially appeared quiet and reserved but quickly showed her zest for life when she felt comfortable. She entertained all with her singing and her sense of humor. Her love of God and people was apparent in everything she did. She loved to cook and bake and would be the first to deliver a meal to someone in need or to feed anyone nearby. She would give you the shirt off her back, literally. If you admired her outfit, it became yours.
Milly was born August 10, 1931, in Cresaptown, Maryland, to Arthur and Margaret Biever. They moved to Lebanon, Pa. with their four children, Marion Lee (married George Miller), Dorothy (married Jacob Keath), Arthur Jr. (married Nancy Biever) and Milly, when she was seven years old. Another sibling, Shirley (married Robert Terry) came along a few years later. Milly married the late Joseph Detwiler in 1983. They were together until his passing in 1999.
Milly graduated from Lebanon High School in 1949. She worked at People's National Bank in Lebanon during her early years and then retired from the Hershey Chocolate Factory. Her passion and purpose in life, though, was to take care of others. She was an active member of Kochenderfer's United Methodist Church until she moved to Florida in 2012.
She loved spending time with her children, Craig Stalnecker, Sandee Stalnecker Lester, (wife of the late Rick Lester) and Loree Stalnecker Kreiser, (wife of Gregory Kreiser), and grand-children, David Lester (husband of Melissa Lester), Kelly Kreiser Leiss (wife of Cody Leiss), Megan Lester Colón (wife of Benjamin Colón), and Kevin Kreiser. Her greatest joy was her great-grandchildren; Kaidyn Conley Leiss, Gracie Walker, Saydie Leiss, Kensley Leiss, Rick Lester II and Raquel Colón. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph Detwiler, her parents Arthur and Margaret Biever, her sisters Marion Lee Miller and Dorothy Keath, and her son-in-law, Rick Lester.
A Celebration of Life for Milly will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Kochenderfer's United Methodist Church, 1105 Kochenderfer Rd., Lebanon, Pa. A luncheon will follow after the service.
