Obituary

Mildred Marie Barineau Hobdy, age 81, resided in Mount Dora, Florida for 50+ years and more recently in Tavares, Florida for past 14 years, passed away in Eustis, Florida on Monday March 3, 2014.

There will be a privately held family memorial service at an undisclosed time and location to honor our Mother's wishes. Those wishing to express their condolences may do so by visiting the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home web site at www.allenjharden.com . Arrangements are being handled by Allen J. Harden Funeral Home of Mount Dora, Florida.

Mildred was born in Sanford, Florida on August 19, 1932 and attended school there as well until she married.

Mildred married Ernest Hobdy, son of Jesse and Hazel Hobdy of Hobdy's Garage in Mount Dora, Fl., on April 24,1949 in Valdosta, Georgia. Mildred and Ernest were married 47 years until his death in 1996. Mildred never remarried.

Mildred was a full time wife and homemaker. She willingly and successfully raised 4 daughters. Mildred was an accomplished self-taught seamstress and made most of the clothes, prom dresses, and even wedding dresses for her girls as they were growing up. She loved working in her flower beds. She liked sunning outdoors and looked forward to the annual family outings at New Smyrna Beach. She liked arts and crafts and enjoyed working with her friends at the local Daisy-A-Day Flower Shop. Since the early 1950's Mildred would make the annual trek to Waynesville, North Carolina where she and the girls and her husband, and his parents would spend the month of July in their cabin in the Western Carolina mountains. In her early 40's Mildred discovered her love for the game of tennis and continued to compete into her 60's. Mildred was also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Dora for many years while raising her girls and teaching them the values of a strong Christian faith. She often volunteered and regularly encouraged her children to attend the various religious functions and church services. If it was Sunday, she and the girls were in attendance. Mildred was a special person and a loving and dedicated Mother.

Mildred is survived by daughters Shleen, Sheila, Debbie, and Teena, as well as 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 great-great granddaughters, 1 sister, Lois, 2 brothers, Eugene and Richard, and many more members of the Barineau family including nieces, nephews and their many offspring.

Mildred is preceded in death by her husband Ernest, mother Nola Azalee and father Audy Lee, sisters Elsie, Gwen and Barbara, and brothers Clarence, Lawrence, Kenneth (Billy), and Audy Jr.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorial donations in Mildred's name be made to your local Hospice or favorite charity. The family wishes to express their appreciation to those who participated in Mildred's care during her declining health.
