IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Milton Jack
Chewning
March 20, 1925 – September 29, 2025
Milton (Mike) Chewning of Mount Dora, FL passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, after living a wonderful 100 very active years.
Mike was born March 20, 1925, in Dubuque Iowa. He served over 20 years in the US Navy as a pilot, retiring as the leader of squadron VA-55 with the rank of Commander. Following the Navy, Mike was a flight instructor at United Airlines (Denver) where he introduced the new Boeing 737 to many airline pilots. Mike finished his long aviation career at Denver Metropolitan University Aviation Department.
Mike was a competitive senior tennis player -- traveling across the country to win matches primarily in mixed double competition. He enjoyed playing tennis right up to his 100th birthday. Mike learned to ski in Colorado and could be found gracefully gliding down the ski slopes up to the age of 90 when he moved to Florida. Mike enjoyed playing Bridge, which he often won due to his cunning and skill.
Mike and his wife Colleen were wonderful parents to their four boys: Steve (deceased), Eric (Florida), Pat (Oregon), and Dave (Colorado). Mike has five grandchildren (Scott, Lisa, Ceara, Serrah, Tanner), and two great-grandsons (Archer, Hunter).
As Mike wished, the family will be spreading his ashes in the Rocky Mountains in a private remembrance ceremony at several of his favorite locations. In lieu of flowers, Mike suggests a donation to Honor Flight -- an organization that honors our veterans with trips to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials.
