Paul R. Briggs' Obituary
Briggs, Paul Russell 85 of Mount Dora. Florida passed away on August 31, 2015. He was born on June 25, 1930 in Bay City, Michigan. Paul is survived by his endearing family; son, Terry R. Briggs and Daughter-In-Law Laney Briggs; Daughter, Valerie R. Briggs and Son-In-Law Vinny Lopez; Sister Rheta P. Histed (Frank) and Brother Wesley A. Briggs; Grandchildren, Benjamin R. Hoger and Emily L. Briggs; Great Grandchildren, Hailey D. McElrath and Brady R. Briggs.
Paul was an avid adventurer traveling throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom with his wife Elaine.
He was a Master Craftsman with anything pertaining to wood. His hobbies included carving birds and animals as well as canes for disabled veterans. His contribution to the making of these canes was hand carving an eagle head to be used and the handle f the cane. He created hand carved signs for all purposes. He was a member of the Lake wood Carvers Club.
At age 73, he became the oldest graduate of his class earning his G.E.D. from Lake County School System. Everyone attending the ceremony cheered him on and gave him a standing ovation! That was one of the proudest moments of his life!
He was the go to guy when it came to just about any kind of repair, whether it meant bicycles, autos, homes or whatever could possibly thought of. If Paul didn't have the tool to do the job, he would make the tool. Both his son and daughter share a legacy of lessons taught over their lifetime.
Paul was a United States marine during the Korean War. He served proudly served our country overseas from the years 1950 through 1953 and was also in the reserved an additional year in 1954.
He was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, PCA. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 5:00 PM located at:
