Richard was born in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, on May 24, 1937, to Dave and Cartha Woody. Richard attended Harris High School and graduated in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army for two years shortly after high school.
Shortly after leaving the Army, he moved to Florida and worked at the Orlando Sentinel as a pressman for 36 years. While working at the Sentinel a co-worker introduced him to his future wife, Phyllis, who he would marry on September 5, 1964.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Avant Woody, parents, Dave and Cartha Woody, and his four brothers, Arthur, Bob, Todd and Truett. He is survived by his three sons, Chris (wife, Elizabeth), Rick (wife, Liz), Tim and 6 grandchildren, Sarah (husband, Brandon), Sophia (husband, Luke), Javier (wife, Courtney), Emily (fiancé, Nick) Landon (wife, Emma) and Jaycee.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, from 11am - noon, followed by a Funeral Service that will begin promptly at 12pm. Both services will take place at Allen J. Harden Funeral Home located at 1800 N. Donnelly Street, Mount Dora, Florida, 32757. Interment will take place at Pine Forest Cemetery, also located in Mount Dora, following the service.
