Robert Gerald Atchison

November 5, 1921 – May 19, 2024

Mr. Robert Atchison, age 102 years,  passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at his residence.

Bob was born in Franklin, KY., to the late Daniel W. Atchison and Ollie L. Craft Atchison.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Marguerite Dorris Atchison,  both parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

He enlisted in the US Army and served in Europe during WWII.  He moved his family to Winter Haven, FL., in the late 1940's, where he worked for Velda Farms. In 1967, he moved to Orlando and opened a Dairy Queen in the Pine Hills area.  Then, he moved to Mt. Dora in 1973, to open the Dairy Queen on old 441.

Bob was a member of Orange Avenue Church of Christ in Eustis, FL., for many years.  He was an avid golfer and member of "The Raiders" league at Mt. Dora golf course.  Bob was a well-known and respected businessman in Mt. Dora and supported Mt. Dora Christian Academy and Central Florida Bible Camp.

He is survived by: three children - Geraldine Warren of Mt. Dora, Steve Atchison (Susie) of Hendersonville, NC., and Wanda Knappenberger (Bob) of Orlando,  7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Anna Calhoun (Bonaire, GA).

Funeral Services will be held at Allen J. Harden Funeral Home located at 1800 North Donnelly Street in Mt. Dora, FL., 32757. The visitation will be on Friday, May 24th at 10am. The funeral service will start immediately after the visitation at 11am, which will be promptly followed by a burial service at Pine Forest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mt. Dora Christian Academy  or Central Florida Bible Camp.
