Ruby Karr, age 90, passed away peacefully in the care of Edgewater at Waterman Village in Mount Dora, Florida, on September 11, 2017. Born Ruby Plecas June 9, 1927, in Bellwood, Illinois, she was the beloved wife of the late Norman W. ("Norm") Karr for 63 years. Dearest mother of Paul (Michele) Karr, Jonathan (Cecilia) Karr and grandmother to Elizabeth, Michael & Jonathan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Karr, parents John and Mildred (Bruich) Plecas, sister Anne (Joseph) Quagliata and brother Robert Plecas.
Ruby graduated salutatorian from Proviso East High School, Maywood, Illinois, in 1945 and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Ruby and Norman were married July 2, 1949. Ruby was active in the Park Ridge Community Church in Park Ridge, Illinois, where she lived for over 25 years, and in The Congregational Church of Mount Dora, Florida. Her career included the Chicago Herald-American newspaper, the family business Karr Brothers, Inc., and a law firm in Tavares, Florida. When not spending time with family and friends, Ruby enjoyed vigorous walks and crossword puzzles.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at 2:00 PM at The Congregational Church of Mount Dora, 650 Donnelly Street, Mount Dora, FL 32757. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Red Cross at redcross.org.
