IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra S
Mccreight
November 6, 1937 – November 25, 2021
Sandra J. McCreight passed away on November 25, 2021, at her home in Eustis, Florida. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and is survived by her only daughter, Catherine Sue Tabor and granddaughter, Cassandra Lynn Diamond who are both of Round Rock, Texas.
Sandra was born with her first smile on November 06, 1937, in Middletown, Ohio and was the wife of Donald E. McCreight and the daughter of Charles and Shirley Sebald. She is also survived by her sister, Gwelda Popp, of Bay Village, Ohio, and two nephews as well as many friends throughout the United States, Terceira, Azores, Portugal and around the world. Her laugh would always fill the room, and everyone knew she was there.
She received her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University in Education and her master's degree in Remedial Reading Education along with an honorary degree from the University of Rhode Island. She was an Elementary resource teacher for 30 years in the South Kingstown school district and impacting the lives of many children while inspiring them to read and learn.
Sandy had a full and wonderful life despite not one but two battles with cancer. She survived her loving husband Donald E. McCreight of over 64 years by just 20 months when she finally lost her battle with cancer. Most of their life, Don and Sandy lived in Peace Dale, Rhode Island before snow birding to Florida. They were a team that could not be divided and are now once again reunited in heaven.
Her most favorite sport was playing golf with her husband. They enjoyed following the URI golf team in competition and together they established the Don & Sandy McCreight Golf Endowment to support the Rhode Island golf program.
She met her husband due to their common love for showing sheep and they continued that passion by helping at fairs and sheep shows judging sheep in the summers while they live in Rhode Island while maintaining a love for Ohio State/Penn State football game rivalries.
While her husband was working with the Portuguese Government in establishing University of the Azores on the island of Terceira, they fell in love with the people and culture of the island. After retirement, Don and Sandy spent their summers on the island of Terceira, Azores, and winters in Central Florida along with a few memorable weeks each year on the Big Island of Hawaii golfing. They lived a happy and fulfilled life and set an example for their daughter as servant leaders.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined. In leu of flowers, donation may be made to the Don & Sandy McCreight Golf Endowment , The University of Rhode Island, 79 Upper College Road, Kingston, RI 02881. Condolences and happy memories of Sandy may be emailed to her daughter Cathie Tabor at SandyMcCreightMemorial@gmail.com .
With deep appreciation, Cathie and Cassy wish to sincerely thank all those that have shown their love and support at this time.
