Obituary

Sarah Jane Crawford Clark brought joy to those around her with her beautiful smile for over 95 years. Born September 16, 1922 in Kyler, Baker County, FL to Ezekiel Crawford and Amie Ellen Rhoden Crawford, Jane was the youngest of 10 children. She inherited her mother's "busy hands" (as Jane called them) and like her mother perfected the art of crocheting – especially quilts that were often given to her family as gifts. She also began writing poetry and stories at just 8 years old.

Jane married S J Harrington on August 23, 1941 and became known as "Mama" when their children were born. Because of her creative mind, she often wrote beautiful poetry for life's memorable events and one recent Christmas morning well into her 90's, she recited from memory the poem she wrote for her oldest daughter's birth. Her writing skills also came in handy for the church Christmas plays in which her children participated. She was "famous" for her fried apples and homemade biscuits and loved to eat corn on the cob at what seemed like record speed.

"Mama" became "Granny" in 1961 when her first grandson was born. She treasured nothing more than her family. After S J's passing, Jane married Robert William Clark on June 16, 1968 and moved to Black Mountain, NC where they built much of their house with their own hands. While grandchildren were visiting, a black bear appeared too close to her grandson and Granny was ready to fight the bear. She loved camping in the RV and she considered everyone she met a neighbor.

Like her favorite church song, Jane/Mama/Granny went to her Mansion Over the Hilltop on July 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her first husband, S J Harrington; second husband, Robert William Clark; Grandson, Robert Brian Fields and her son-in-law, John Cecil Osborne and is survived by her children: Brenda Joyce Fields (Bob), of Tavares, FL; Buddy Harrington (Mary) of Winlock, Washington; and Wanda Osborne of Keystone Heights, FL; along with 10 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren, several Great-Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Services will be held at Jacksonville Memory Gardens in Orange Park, Florida on Saturday, August 4 at 11 am.
