Sharla Kurz was born Sharladene Reeves on May 15, 1943 in Lubbock, Texas. She died peacefully in her sleep at 78 years old on November 23, 2021 at her home in Mt. Dora, Florida following complications after open-heart surgery. Sharla was the unexpected twin born shortly after her brother, Eugene Reeves, now deceased. She is survived by her husband, Edward (Steve) Kurz, her children Stephanie Pichardo (married to Ignacio Pichardo), Sherri Descalzo (married to Alberto Descalzo), and William (Bill) Kurz (married to Erin Kurz), and her younger brother Quinton Reeves. Sharla has ten grandchildren: Rachael Brownlee (married to Alex Brownlee), Zachary Holland, Gabrielle Burton (married to Satchel Burton), Isabella Pichardo, Christopher James (CJ) Norris (married to Maria Norris), Santiago Descalzo, Javier Descalzo, Andrew Kurz, Jillian Kurz, and Landon Kurz. Sharla is also survived by her five great-grandchildren (and counting!): James (Jamie) Norris, Amelia (Mia) Norris, Madeleine (Maddie) Norris, Olivia Brownlee, Audrey Brownlee, and baby Brownlee is expected in March, 2022.

Sharla was an active and energetic wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She adapted to any situation with a smile and a bit of her quick wit. Some of her favorite activities were riding her motorcycle, camping, hiking, snow- and waterskiing, traveling, and being with people. She made friends wherever she went, and her sense of humor kept everyone laughing together. She was eager to lend a hand, teach grandchildren how to drive, hold the babies, and supervise the cooking with a glass of wine in hand. Her humor and her smiles will be sorely missed.

A wake will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 2 at the Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, 1800 N Donnelly St, Mount Dora, FL  32757. A funeral mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, December 3 at St Patrick's Church, 6803 Old Highway 441 S, Mount Dora, FL  32757 and will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/c/StPatrickCatholicChurchMtDoraFlorida?app=desktop&noapp=1 . A recording of the mass will be uploaded to the St. Patrick YouTube page listed above.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in Sharla's name to the Cross Catholic Outreach, P.O. Box 97168, Washington, DC. 20090. Sharla's remains will be laid to rest at 11 a.m. on December 20 in the Holy Presence Columbarium, Queen of Angels Cemetery, 1901 Queen of Angels Drive, Winter Park, FL 32792.
