"Bud" Brookes
May 21, 1939 – May 23, 2018
Stanley C "Bud" Brookes, 79 of Mount Dora, FL died Wednesday May 23, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Margaret and Stanley "Bo" Brookes.
Bud spent 30+ years as a School Administrator in Lake County . He received his bachelors degree from Appalachian State University and his Masters in Secondary Education from East Tennessee State University. He began his professional journey in the mid 60's at Florida Central Academy, a private boarding school in Mt. Plymouth. He was the Headmaster, taught Mechanical Drawing, and coached various sports including tennis and soccer. He loved coaching soccer and his players represented a true international squad with student athletes from Trinidad, Haiti, Columbia, Venezuela, Bahamas and many other countries.
In 1979 he joined the Lake County School system as Assistant Principal at Mt. Dora Middle School. His journey continued to Mt. Dora High School in the 1983-84 school year as Assistant Principal and eventually Principal. In 1992 he became Principal at Roseborough Elementary School and remained there until 2000. He always enjoyed seeing former faculty and students around Mt. Dora and learning about their life journeys.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the beach fishing, going on cruises, and spoiling his grand kids. The past few years he RV'd around the United States with his companion Carolyn Erdman, Mt.Dora, FL. They visited many of our National Parks and attended festivals such as the Albuquerque Balloon Festival.
He was a member of Mt. Dora Lodge 238 and the Eustis Elks Lodge.
Bud is also survived by his sister Margaret of Reading, PA. Son Charles of Merritt Island, FL and his 2 children Taylor of St Petersburg, FL and Gabrielle of Sanford, FL. Son Scott, his wife Amy and their 5 children (Carson, Gavin, Parker, Corrine and Cole) of Winter Garden, FL .
Bud is preceeded in death by his wife Constance and his brother Edward.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future.
