Stephen C. Vaughn, Sr., 88, of Mount Dora, FL left this earth to join the Heavenly Band playing his favorite instrument, the saxophone on June 1, 2013.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 14th at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Mt Dora.
Born in Lewes, Delaware on June 13, 1924, he was the son of Molloy C. Vaughn, Sr. and Estelle Rogers Vaughn, and grandson of E.C. Rogers, former Mayor of Leesburg.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Sharp Vaughn, their three sons: Stephen Jr (Marilyn), Robert (Karen), Marc (partner Lisa Malloy), all of Mt Dora; four grandchildren: Lani Lang (David), Lori , Dylan, and Marlie; three great grandchildren: Jaclyn, Lois and Luke Lang; sister: Louise Hanby of Ocala; brother: William Vaughn of Newark, DE; cousins: Patsy Joyner of AL, Barbara Ross of NC.
In 1964, after an agricultural career in Delaware, he founded Vaughn Construction Co. in Mount Dora, and later co-founded Vaughn Realty with his son Stephen. He was active on Lake County's Planning and Zoning Board, Association of Realtors, and co-founded the Home Builders Association. He attended the University of Delaware and the U.S. Merchants Marine Academy, and was a Veteran of World War II.
Stephen was happiest boating with family and friends on Lake Gertrude.
