IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vasco L
Watters
August 14, 1946 – April 28, 2021
Vasco Lamar Watters of Mt. Dora, due to a prolonged illness with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, went home to be with Jesus on April 28, 2021, at Cornerstone Hospice House of Tavares.
He was born on August 14, 1946, in Orlando. He grew up in Apopka, where he attended school and graduated in 1965 from Apopka High School. He loved playing football.
He received a Horticultural degree and was an avid hunter, outdoor enthusiast, and plant lover. He spent countless hours hunting on family property in Georgia with his son and many friends. Often, at home, he could be found air layering plants and planting different varieties all over his yard. He passed these passions down to his children. His wife, children, and granddaughters were the highlights of his life. His family meant everything to him.
He loved the Lord, and this was apparent in his demeanor and in everything he did. He and his wife were married in 1974 in the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Dora. They moved to Mt. Dora in 1977. Over the years, he served as Methodist Men's President and on many committees, including the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, and Pastor Parrish Relations Committee.
He opened the first Walmart garden centers in the Southeastern United States. He was the Regional Lawn and Garden Center Manager. Later in life, he became President of the Orlando Feed Milling Company and then became Chief Financial Officer for C.C. Ranch Inc.
After retirement, he was active in the community of Mt. Dora and served as a member of the Police Pension Board and later as a member of the Fire Pension Board. He became a City Councilman At Large in 2010 and was also the Vice Mayor.
He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin F. Watters, his mother, Rosa Muriel Watters, and his brother, AZ (Boe) Watters. He leaves behind his loving wife June of 47 years, his daughter Kim Sasser of Mt. Dora, Fl., his son Ben Watters (January) of Hillsborough, NC., his brother Dwight (Ardell) of Celina, TN. and granddaughters Hailey and Piper.
There will be a Memorial Service on May 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Dora. It was Vasco's desire, due to Covid, that the service be live streamed at
https://mtdorafumc.org
and press Watch Live. The service can also be found later at
https://mtdorafumc.org/sermon-videos/
Instead of physically reaching out to his family, he wished for all who feel led to write something in the guestbook section of the website. Please share your funny stories, memories, and warm thoughts for family and friends alike to enjoy. Vasco impacted many lives, and he would want each of you to celebrate his life with positive memories and know he is at peace and with his Lord.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations in his honor to Cornerstone Hospice Tavares 2445 Lane Park Road Tavares, Florida 32778.
